Verlie V. Born, 95, of McAlester, died Sunday, June 12, 2011, at McAlester Regional Health Center.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Chaney’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Paul Jones officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery in McAlester. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home of McAlester.

She was born Nov. 18, 1915, in Rush Springs, and later attended Chickasha Oklahoma College for Women.

She married Chester A. Born on April 9, 1939. They resided in Lawton before moving to McAlester in 1947.

From 1960 until her retirement in 1980 she worked as office manager at her husband’s accounting and tax practice.

She enjoyed fishing, bowling, gardening, reading and needle crafts.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of McAlester for more than 60 years.

Survivors include her daughters, Patricia N. Herman, of McAlester, and L. Carol Falis, of McAlester; grandchildren, Kimberly Burkheiser and husband, Thom, Bryan, Texas, Shelly Walden, Sacramento, Calif., Ken Buxbaum, Bryan, Shannan Wilcox, of McAlester, and Terri Falis-Cochran and husband, Keith, Joplin, Mo.

Also, great-grandchildren, Abby Doherty and husband, Brian, Pittsburg, Kan., Aleisha Hurt, Frontenac, Kan., Meghann Hurt and husband, Phillip, Antelope, Calif., Patrick Burkheiser, Bryan, Dale Burkheiser, Bryan, Kaitlynn Foote, Antelope, and Kenna Buxbaum, Bryan; three great-great-grandsons, and close family friends, Michael Jarman and Bernice Turnbo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester A. Born; sons-in-law, James H. Herman and Clifford E. Falis, and great-great-grandson, Jachob Hurt.

Pallbearers will be Roger Scheck, Michael Barrett, Michael Jarman, Keith Cochran and Frank Kopenhiemer.
