CAMPBELL, Nina (Helton)
The memorial service for Nina H. Campbell, 100 year-old Enid resident, will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, at Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Lorenzo Dunsford will officiate and participate with his family. Nina was born Sept. 11, 1908, in Shattuck, Ellis County, Okla., to Oscar and Mildred (Black) Helton and died Sept. 2, 2009. Following her graduation from Shattuck High School with the class of 1926, she attended Oklahoma College for Women at Chickasha. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma, Norman, in 1929 with a degree in physical education. She taught school for a year in Huntoon, Texas.The former Nina E. Helton married Laurence Campbell on Oct. 6, 1930, in Woodward. The couple made their home in Muma and Shattuck before coming to Enid in 1937. Nina was a secretary at the state employment office. With her husband, she owned and operated a beer distributorship (formerly Great Western, now Pope) from 1939 until 1950. She also worked as a clerk for the Internal Revenue Service and as a medical secretary at Vance Air Force Base.She was a collie dog breeder for several years. She was a member of the Collie Club of America as well as Tulsa and Oklahoma City collie clubs.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, one brother and one sister.She is survived by four grandchildren; one foster daughter; six foster grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Oklahoma School of Veterinary Medicine at Stillwater or Collie Eye Foundation.Also, a beneficiary of her giving is the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine.
