CULLEN, Margaret A. (Hyne)
Margaret Alice Hyne Cullen Margaret passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 13, 2011. She was 94. Margaret enjoyed all types of needlework, especially knitting Christmas stockings for every family member and close friends. She was an avid researcher who loved reading and valued learning new things. She was born in Sterling, Colorado and was proud to attend Oklahoma College for Women. In 1937, she almost answered the government's call to work in London, but her high school sweetheart proposed. Margaret and Larry were married in 1938 at a small church service. They moved to San Francisco where she worked at the Visitacion Valley Community Center and at Home Insurance as a secretary. She loved working and keeping busy. After she and Larry moved to Petaluma, she volunteered as an aide at Kaiser. She enjoyed helping people. Her hobbies included crossword puzzles and baseball. She loved keeping score during baseball games. She is survived by her beloved husband, Larry, of 72 years; cherished children Kathleen Pearson (Brian), Larry "Bud" (Deborah), and Jim (Marlene): grandchildren Michael Pearson (Cindy), Rob (Allie), Rachel, and Jeff: great-grandchildren Liz Pearson and Vivien Cullen. Margaret was a gifted poet and creative writer. As a young bride, she wrote a loving poem dedicated to her husband, Larry: "You kissed my lips, And then, oh lovely thing, Those silent eyes of mine began to see. You kissed my eyes and right away, I saw life...Love...A rare jewel without flaw. And last of all, your dear lips touched my ear, and to this day, your pledge of love I hear." A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Friday, Febuary 18, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma, CA. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Robert Cullen Student Leader Scholarship, Santa Rosa Junior College Foundation, 1501 Mendocino Ave., Santa Rosa, CA 95401.
