A memorial service for Barbara Dale (Bowersock) Darnell, 85, of Clinton, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Christian Church with Doyle Kinney officiating. Barbara Dale Bowersock was born Aug. 7, 1924, in Hobart, the daughter of Robert David and Mary Lenora (Barner) Bowersock. She died July 8, 2010, at her home following a long battle with cancer. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1942 and attended Oklahoma College for Women before returning to Clinton where she worked for the Veterans Administration. In 1946, she met and married Mayo S. Darnell, who was a co-owner and pharmacist at S&D Drug Store. Over the years she served as a Girl Scout leader and homeroom mother. She was a part time employee of Boyd Jewelers and the Gingersnap. Upon her husbands death, she managed D&C Properties. She was a member of the First Christian Church where she also sang in the choir. Mrs. Darnell volunteered with the old Clinton Regional Hospital and also was a member of the Les Amis bridge club. She also served as an Alcoholics Anonymous sponsor. Also preceding her in death were her brother, David Bowersock; and two sisters, Julia Dobbins and Marian Wheeler. Burial will be in the Clinton Cemetery under direction of the Stanley-Lee Funeral Home. Survivors include her daughters, Cindy Parrett and her husband, Bud, Marsha Downs and her husband, Richard, Nancy Holmboe and her husband, Bruce; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. The family suggests memorial contributions in her honor may be given to Integris Western Oklahoma Hospice, American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association.
