FITZGERALD, Jane (Wanstreet)
Jane Fitzgerald, 87, of Vandalia, passed away at 1:54 p.m. on Nov. 18, 2008 at Tri-County Care Center. Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 20 from 6-8 p.m. at Waters Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at Waters Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in the Vandalia Cemetery. Dorothy Jane Fitzgerald was born Aug. 13, 1921 in Mexico, the daughter of Joe and Esther (Rodhouse) Wanstreet. She graduated from Vandalia High School in 1939. She received her BS in education from Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, Okla. She married John Fitzgerald of Vandalia on Feb. 4, 1945 upon his return from Italy after being wounded during World War II. She taught civics and history in Warrenton while John attended St. Louis School of Pharmacy. Later she taught civics and French at Van-Far High School. Jane took two groups of French students to Europe to study and travel in France, England, Italy, Greece and Austria. Jane was active in AAUW and PEO serving in several positions including president. She was also active in the Audrain County Republican organization. Survivors include: husband, John Fitzgerald of Vandalia; two sons, Mike and wife, Janelle, of Lake Winnebago and Pat and wife, Barbara, of Columbia; one daughter, Molly and husband, Dean Arnett, of Springdale, Ark.; two grandsons, Ryan Fitzgerald of Kansas City and Aaron Fitzgerald of LeeÆs Summit; three granddaughters, Allyson and husband, Josh Sebolt, of Raymore, Sarah and Alexis Arnett of Springdale, Ark.; one great-grandson, Timothy Sebolt and TimmyÆs brother who is due Dec. 1, 2008. Wife, mom and grandma, Jane will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary Jarvis. In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to the First Baptist Church, Vandalia, or American Cancer Society.
