GARRETT, Rowena (King)

Rowena Garrett, age 70, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, was born on July 7, 1939 and went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 27, 2009. Rowena Jean King was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma, and was the only child of Robert King and Lorraine Rains King. She graduated in 1957 from Chickasha High School and then earned an Associate degree in business from Oklahoma College for Women. On June 1, 1958, Rowena married her husband of 51 years, Bobby Lee Garrett. For 35 years she was church secretary and later secretary to the pastor at Southwest Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. Besides working for the church, Rowena and Bobby served faithfully in the 5th Grade Department, the Youth Department and in the College and Career class at Southwest Baptist Church for over 30 years. Rowena also started Kings Kids, a choir for 4, 5 and 6 year olds and worked with the children for over 20 years. She is survived by her husband, Bobby; and three married daughters: Pamela Tomey, husband Phil and granddaughters, Nicole and Kaitlyn; Shelley Mitchell, husband Barry and grandson, Morgan; Kendra Bigelow, husband Brad and granddaughters, Kylie and Kenley. Memorial service was held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 31, 2009, at Southwest Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Sam Davison. Interment at Resthaven Cemetery.
