HARPER, Altha R. (Northum)
BOWIE - Altha R. Harper, 97, died Tuesday, July 10, 2007, in Wichita Falls. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2007, in Elmwood Cemetery, Bowie, under the direction of Heritage Family Funeral Home. Altha was born Dec. 11, 1909, in Cloud Chief, Okla., to Francis and Tennie Northum. She has lived in Oklahoma and Texas all her life. She attended Bowie grade school and graduated from Graham High School. She finished her education by attending Wichita Falls Junior College and receiving a Bachelor of Arts of Degree from Oklahoma College for Women, now known as the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, in Chickasha, Okla. She taught school in Texas and Oklahoma, managed Renfro Drug Co., and instructed sewing for Singer Sewing Machine Co. In 1950 she became an instructor at Sheppard Air Base for 20 years, retiring on Jan. 2, 1971. She was preceded in death by her parents, nephews, Lynn Johnston and Harold Johnston, and a cousin, Orville Davis. Survivors include a great-niece, Lynette Duckworth and her husband, James; great-great-nephew, Shane; great-great-niece Ashli; and great-great-great-niece Reagan all of Wichita Falls.
