Avis Williams Harris died January 2, 2012, in Oklahoma City at the age of 100. She was born on July 16, 1911 in Fletcher, Oklahoma to Joel and Laura Williams. After graduating from Fletcher High School in 1929, she attended the Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, Oklahoma. While in Chickasha, she met Haskell Harris and they were married in December of 1930. They were married for 71 years until Haskell's death in 2002. Avis devoted her life to her family and her church. She was a longtime member of Trinity Baptist Church and Quail Springs Baptist Church. In her ""retirement"" years, she was an employee of Baptist Health Care Corporation, assisting her husband in the administration of the Corporation's management of several rural hospitals in Oklahoma. Avis was an avid reader and talented counted cross stitcher, providing numerous cross-stitch creations to family and friends. She completed her last cross-stitch when she was 99. She was very proud to have reached the age of 100. Avis was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and five brothers. She is survived by daughter, Margaret Stewart and husband Fred, Wichita Falls, Texas; son, John Harris and wife Dee, Oklahoma City; grandchildren, David Stewart, Seabrook, Texas, Peter Stewart, Wichita Falls, Texas, John Stewart and wife Elizabeth, Spring, Texas, Benjamin Harris and wife Suzanne, Oklahoma City and Andrew Harris and wife Cyone, Oklahoma City; and six great grandchildren. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 4, 2012, from 9:00AM to 9:00PM at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper, 6600 Broadway Extension, Oklahoma City. A memorial service will be held at Quail Springs Baptist Church, 14613 N. May Ave., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on Thursday, January 5, 2012, at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Quail Springs Baptist Church.
