HAWKINS, Barbara J. (Ray)
Barbara Jan (Ray) Hawkins entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on December 6, 2008. Barbara was a faithful servant of her Heavenly Father for more than 30 years through the Word of Life Church. The very first meeting of the newly formed church was held in the living room of her home. Since that time, Barbara had dedicated her life to the Lord’s will and work. Always a quiet and gracious lady, she was quick to meet the needs of others. She served as Associate Pastor to her church along side pastors Ron and Belinda Faulkinberry. She was also church secretary, treasurer, and occasional song leader. Barbara was born September 7, 1939 in Chickasha, to G.H. and Juanita (Duesler) Ray of Cement, Oklahoma. Her childhood years spent in Cement were some of her fondest memories- excelling in basketball, making life long friends, and meeting the loves of her life. Moving to Chickasha in 1954, Barbara attended junior high and high school graduating in 1957, at which time she went to modeling school in Dallas then attended Oklahoma College for Women for 2 years. In 1959, she married Donald Raymond Hawkins, they later divorced. Barbara celebrated life to its fullest, devoting her life as a mother to her four children. She loved to travel with family especially enjoying cruises having gone on many of them. She delighted in back road country drives, picking wild flowers and fishing. Finding out-of-the-way restaurants and good food was pure pleasure for Barbara. Barbara was preceded in death by a daughter, Jana Lynn Hawkins, her father G.H. Ray, grandparents G.H. and Cora Rachael Ray, Sr. and Floyd and Sylvia Duesler of Cement. She leaves behind her loving family mother Juanita (Duesler) Ray, daughter Misty and son-in-law M.
