Frances R. Henderson was born May 26, 1926 in Blair, Oklahoma, and died December 31, 2009 at Kingfisher Regional Hospital. Frances graduated from Blair High School in 1944. She received her Bachelor of Science in Vocational Home Economics from Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha and her Masters from Oklahoma State University in Clothing Textile Merchandizing. She was employed by the Oklahoma State Extension Center as a Home Economist for 43 years. Pryor to retiring 1983 in Kingfisher, she worked in Garvin and Stephens Counties as an assistant extension home economist. Frances was a member of The First United Methodist Church in Kingfisher, the United Methodist Women Organization, Kingfisher Regional Hospital, the Faithful Extension Workers, the Oklahoma and National Association of Extension Homemakers, having served President for the Oklahoma Chapter from 1972-1974. She was also a member of the Oklahoma and American Home Economics Associations. Frances received the Distinguished Service Award in 1971 and The First Cleo Bryan Award in 1975 from the Oklahoma Home Economics Association. In 1972 she initiated the Rookie Award for Extension Homemakers during her tenure as President. She also served as an advisor to the Extension Homemaker Groups and co-leader for 4-H groups, which included trips to camps and conventions. She also served on the education committee of the Oklahoma Association of Retail Pharmacists whose aim was to extend drug abuse programs throughout the state. Survivors include six nieces and nephews: Barbara and John Nichols of Oklahoma City; Jo and Tom Henderson of Sweetwater, Texas; Trish and Leon Crosswhite of Hennessey, Oklahoma; MJ Henderson-Smith and Rob Smith of Cushing, Oklahoma; Kim and John Henderson of Eldorado, Oklahoma; DeeAnn and Scott Henderson of Altus, Oklahoma; 14 great- nieces and nephews and 14 great-great- nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, George W. and Addie M. (Stricklin) Henderson; one brother, Bryce R. Henderson; and an infant great-nephew. Services were held at The First United Methodist Church in Kingfisher, with interment at the Blair Cemetery in Blair, Oklahoma, on Tuesday, January 5, 2010.
