JONES, Fredy N.
Former longtime Duncan, Okla., resident Fredy Nell Jones, 84, of Wichita, Kan., passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and friends Thursday, May 1, 2008, in Riverside Village Nursing Home in Wichita. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Duncan Cemetery with the Rev. Randy Southerland officiating. Interment is under direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Fredy Nell was born April 14, 1924, in Fox, Okla. She touched many hearts in her lifetime, most especially her high school sweetheart, Jay D. Jones, whom she married on Aug. 31, 1941, in Ardmore, Okla. Their devotion to each other was beyond compare. Jay preceded her in death Oct. 1, 2003. Fredy Nell earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha and her master of library science degree from the University of Oklahoma. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Delta Kappa Gamma and Oklahoma Education Association. She was a dedicated educator and taught third grade at Lee Elementary School in Duncan. She loved her students and helped them see the wonder of learning to read and write. Fredy Nell was very proud of her Choctaw Indian heritage. She was an avid Oklahoma Sooner football fan and flew the OU and American flag every day. She had a great love of animals, flowers and the oil patch. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Devereaux and Trey Nicoud of San Mateo, Calif.; a son and daughter in-law, Dr. Jay Stanley and Stephanie Jones of Wichita; grandchildren: Dr. Preston Jones, Jordan Jones, and Mallory and husband, W.G. Farha, all of Wichita; and many other relatives, all of whom Fredy Nell loved and kept in touch with. She was a devoted wife and mother who always put her family first and will be deeply missed. If you wish, memorial donations may be made to the Duncan Public Library or Best Friends Animal Society, a nationwide, no-kill animal shelter and a cause she held dear to her heart at 5001 Angel Canyon Road, Kanab, UT 84741.
