KEELY, Vivian (Norman)

Vivian Norman Keely was born May 31, 1910, and died on July 28, 2009 at the age of 99. She was born in Luther, OK, the first child of George and Florence Norman. The family later moved to Oklahoma City where she graduated from Classen High School in 1928. She graduated from Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha in 1932 and went to her first teaching job in Arcadia, OK where she met her husband, Preston Keely. They were married in 1937 and after living in Okmulgee, and El Reno, they returned to the Keely family farm in 1948 where they lived until Preston's death in 1996. They had one daughter, Suzann, and twin sons, George and John. Vivian and Preston loved to host family gatherings at the farm and they traveled throughout the United States and Europe before his death. She played bridge until her eyesight failed and enjoyed video poker at the Casino until she was 99. She remained on the farm until 2008 when she moved to Copper Lake Assisted Living Facility. Vivian loved teaching, and continued her education at UCO and another University, getting her Master's degree from UCO and several teaching certifications. Throughout her adult life she taught Home Economics, English, Speech, was a school librarian as well as a high school counselor. In addition to her initial teaching experience in Arcadia, she also taught in Choctaw, Perkins, Luther, and retired from Jones. Vivian is survived by one brother, George Norman and his wife Willie, 3 children and their spouses Suzann Keely Ham and Lanny Ham, George and Holly Keely, and John and Sharion Keely, and also 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Services will be held at the Baggerley Funeral Home Chapel in Edmond, at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 31, 2009. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to the charity of your choice.
