MALTBY, Marjorie E. (Gibbs)
Marjorie Elizabeth Marge Gibbs Maltby left these earthly bonds on Sunday, May 23, 2010 in Muskogee OK. She was born in Auxvasse, Missouri, the daughter of Cordelia (Sims) Gibbs and Herbert Evan Gibbs on June 13, 1916. At age 5, her family, which included her two older brothers and her older sister moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma where they established their home and remained. Mrs. Maltby, following her graduation from Bartlesville High School, attended (at her familys request) Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha her freshman year. From her sophomore years forward, she attended and graduated from Oklahoma State University (then Oklahoma A&M) in Stillwater. It was there that she joined the Chi Omega Social Sorority and was active in all phases of campus activities. On November 13, 1937, in Dallas, Texas, she and her high school classmate, James Rockwood Jack Maltby, Jr. married. Jack was attending Oklahoma University, Norman. Following their respective college graduations in May 1938, they announced to their families of their marriage and then returned to Bartlesville where Jack joined the family business. After 33 years of marriage, Mr. Maltby died of a sudden heart attack in July 1970. Following his death, Mrs. Maltby returned to O.S.U. in Stillwater where she served as House Mom to the Kappa Delta Social Sorority for six years. In the summer of 1976, Mrs. Maltby returned to her home in Bartlesville where she was again active in the community. She was a board member of the Bartlesville Symphony Society, Bartlesville Theatre Guild, the Harlequins and Chi Omega Alumna. In 1996, she received her sixty year pin from Chi Omega. In January, 2000, she moved to Muskogee and made her home at the Dogwood Retirement Center, to be close to her daughter, Leigh. Her family survivors include her daughter, Leigh Bradley of Muskogee and son-in-law, Richard; Kay Files of Covington, Louisiana and son-in-law, Mark; six grandchildren, Patrick, Jennifer, Carter, Elizabeth-Leigh, Jordan Rockwood, and Ryan Gibbs; five great grandchildren, Riley, Evey Kate, Gage, Maggie and Klair and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 28, 2010 in Bartlesville at 11:30 a.m. at the Bartlesville Memorial Park Cemetery at the side of her late husband. The family has entrusted Bradley Family Funeral Service of Muskogee with the arrangements.
