McVEY, Lida L. (Taylor)
Funeral service for Lida Lois McVey, age 94, of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, formerly of Verden, will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at the Verden First Baptist Church in Verden, Oklahoma. Lida Lois McVey was born the daughter of Rufus Taylor and Drusiller Henson Taylor on February 18, 1916. She died on January 22, 2011 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. While growing up on the family farm, Mrs. McVey attended a two-room school called Ionine School through the eighth grade. She graduated from Verden High school and attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, where she obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Lida taught school in Rush Springs and Verden. She was teaching at Verden when the high school burned down in the early 1940s. Lida married Albert Arthur "Art" McVey in Kansas City, Kansas, on April 19, 1941. They made their home in the Verden area until Arthur's death. Lida was a member of the Verden First Baptist Church, the Eastern Star, the Verden Country Club (where she and Art square danced) and the Chickasha Elks Club. Lida loved her home and her hometown. Lida loved visiting with friends and family and preparing delicious home cooked meals for them. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and all of her siblings. She was the last of twelve children. Lida will be remembered for the marvelous care she gave Arthur after he was stricken with Parkinson's disease. Survivors include: Son and wife, Sidney and Beverly McVey of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; Grandson, Ryan McVey of Tulsa; Granddaughter, Adrienne McVey of Anchorage, Alaska; numerous Nieces, Nephews and other family. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home, Chickasha, Oklahoma.
