MEYER, Elaine K. (Nesbitt)
Elaine Kathleen Nesbitt Meyer, 79, of Muskogee, passed way Monday, September 21, 2009 in Tulsa. She was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on April 8, 1930, to Charles Hubert Nesbitt and Carmelita Baze Nesbitt. Both of her parents predeceased her. She had one brother, James B. Nesbitt, who also predeceased her, leaving his ex-wife Lillian Nesbitt, daughter, Beth Head, and grandson, Kenneth Alan Head surviving her. After graduation from Classen High School in Oklahoma City, she enrolled at Oklahoma College for Women at Chickasha, Oklahoma and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. She moved to Muskogee in 1952 with her husband, Kenneth L. Meyer Jr. whom she married in 1950. The marriage was blessed with four children, Kenneth L. Meyer III, Michael M. Meyer, Elaine Kathleen (""Kathy"") Meyer Jr., and Elizabeth Suzanne Meyer, all of whom, except Elizabeth Suzanne, survive her. She was a licensed Medical Technologist and operated the laboratory for Dr. Bartis M. Kent and Dr. Maurice Gephart for some years. Afterwards she was employed at the Muskogee Veterans Administration Regional Medical Center. Bridge and Mah Jong presented challenges she greatly enjoyed and she belonged to several clubs and groups dedicated to these games over the years. Her hobby of coin collecting led to her serving as Secretary-Treasurer of Indian Capital Coin Club for the past fourteen years. She was active in Phi Sigma Alpha Sorority and in the New Friends Club. She was a strong advocate for the Five Civilized Tribes Museum and served several years as a board member. Elaine is survived by her husband of 59 years; three of her children, daughters-in-law Sandi Meyer, Susan Meyer and Lynne Shepherd; seven grandchildren Lauren N. Fletcher, Leslie A. Meyer, Katie K. High, Suzanne M. Meyer, Lisa Marie Eubanks, Anna K. Lynum and Jeremiah T. Meyer, and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 25th at First United Methodist Church in Muskogee with Pastor Rusty Williams and Pastor Michael M. Meyer officiating. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens 8801 Northwest Expressway, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at 2:30 p.m.Honorary pallbearers are Mrs. Eunice Blood, Mrs. Mary Cousparis, Mrs. Genevieve Farr, Mrs. Jean Mahan, Mrs. Jimmie Lou Moran, Mrs. Joan Pierret, Mrs. Betty Politzer, Mrs. Lynn Thornley, Mrs. Martha Tuteral and Mrs. Louis Walden.
