OCHIS, Wanda B. (Morgan)
Funeral for Wanda Ball Ochis, 72, Lawton, will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Willoughby, associate pastor, officiating. Mrs. Ochis died Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, in Lawton. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Chickasha, under direction of Becker Funeral Home. She was born Feb. 8, 1936, in Rush Springs, to James Thomas and Ruby Hazel Morgan. Following her graduation from Ninnekah High School, she received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha. She taught home economics at Dibble High School during her first year of teaching and then taught fourth grade in Lawton at John Adams Elementary and seventh grade literature at Eisenhower Junior High School for 28 years. She retired in 1988. She married Earl Dwayne Ball on Feb. 8, 1956, in Chickasha. He died on June 4, 1980. She then married Ronald Ochis on June 19, 1982, in Lawton. She was an involved member of First Baptist Church and various Bible study groups, PEO Sisterhood, Quest Club, the Comanche County Retired Teachers Association, Potpourri, Sons of Italy and Beta Sigma Phi. She served on the board of directors for the Southwest Oklahoma Opera Guild and the Center for Creative Living. She served as a volunteer at Helen Holliday Home, teaching women to read and better communicate. Survivors include her husband, of the home; five daughters and four sons-in-law: Susan and Jim Pendley, and Beth Ann and Mickey Eckhoff, all of Lawton; Kathy Nahstoll, Athens, Ga.; Karen and Dick Holloway, Fayetteville, Ga.; and Kris and Col. Rick Orth, Sterling, Va.; 10 grandchildren: Ashley Pendley, Carrollton, Texas; Morgan and LilliAnn Eckhoff, both of Lawton; Kyle Nahstoll, Christopher Nahstoll and wife Kate, Lt. j.g. Amy and Abby Holloway, and Kevin, Matthew and Stephan Orth; a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Nahstoll; a brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Evelyn Morgan, Chickasha; a niece, Kristy Riddle; a nephew, Jimmy Morgan; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Dorothy Ochis. She was preceded in death by her parents. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, 1501 NW 9th Avenue, Bob Hope Road, Miami 33136-1494.
