POWERS, Helen E. (Sullivan)

Funeral Mass for Helen Elizabeth Powers, 92, of Chickasha, Oklahoma will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012 at the Holy Name Catholic Church. Helen Elizabeth Powers was born Sept. 20, 1919 in Chickasha, the daughter of William Patrick and Mary Fauntleroy (Downey) Sullivan. She died Jan. 3, 2012 in Oklahoma City. She and John Semion Powers were married Aug. 3, 1942. He preceded her in death in 1949. Helen graduated from Oklahoma College for Women and received her Masters Degree from Oklahoma University. She taught kindergarten at St. Joseph Academy until 1958. She then became a college professor at OCW in the Home Economics Department retiring in 1983 from USAO. Helen was an avid golfer and bridge player. She was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church and helped with Mobile Meals. Survivors include her children, Barbara Beebe and husband, Ward, of Lakeway, TX, John Powers and wife, Kathleen, of Mansfield, TX, Joe Powers and wife, Linda, of Oklahoma City, Jim Powers and wife, Pam, of Advance, NC; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Holy Name Section, under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
