PRICE, Joy E. (Mitchell)
Joy Elizabeth Price was born March 4, 1918 in Alderson, Oklahoma to parents Samuel Wesley and Sarah Elizabeth Mitchell and died October 19, 2009 in Oklahoma City. Joy married Ralph Albert Price on March 17, 1943 but was quick to point out that their love story began in 1906 when she was twelve years old. She met Ralph when he offered her a free bag of popcorn at the movie theater where he worked and she always said that she held on to him because he promised her free popcorn for life. Joy graduated from the Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, OK and worked for many years as a medical assistant and later as a librarian at Oklahoma City University. While in New Jersey and Georgia, Joy volunteered with an organization that worked with special needs children; she loved crossword puzzles, golf, and OU football. Joy was a longtime member of Crown Heights Christian Church and the Victory Class Sunday School. She contributed with her time and talent to the church in many ways including the CWF and the newspaper ""crew"". She was a gracious lady who had a beautiful smile, a delightful sense of humor, and appropriately brought ""joy"" to all who knew and loved her. Joy was like a second mother to her nieces and nephews who were blessed with her love, encouragement, support and even scolding. Joy was preceded in death by her parents, sister Mildred and brother Sam, and is survived by her devoted husband Ralph, nieces Brenda Joy Mitchell and Ann Hampson, nephews Dr. Scott A. Mitchell and Bill Wray, nieces by marriage Jan Sills and Carmelita Scott, great nephews Jeremy Mitchell, Sammy Mitchell, Todd Sills, great nieces Sarah Mitchell Thompson, Shawna Mitchell Cruz, Wendi Sills and many other great and great-great nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to Crown Heights Christian Church. Memorial services will be held Thursday, October 22 at 11:30 AM at Crown Height Christian Church.
