ESTHER HODGES REGAN (Age 90) A retired Prince Georges County School Teacher, died Wednesday, December 10, 2008 of cardio-respiratory failure at Montgomery General Hospital in Olney, MD. Mrs. Regan was born in Pratt, Kansas in 1918. After receiving her elementary and secondary schooling there she attended the Oklahoma College for Women and received her degree. She then joined the Women’s Army Corps and was stationed at Fort Myer, VA during World War II. During this time she met and married Staff Sgt. Philip A. Regan of the U.S. Army Air Corps. The couple then moved to Adelphi, MD. Mrs. Regan went to work as a fashion buyer for Garfinckles Department Store and Mr. Regan started his career with the U.S. Senate. They started their family and Mrs. Regan went on to attend the University of Maryland at College Park working on a Doctorate in Education. She did this while teaching Home Economics full time in Prince Georges County. She often commented fondly on the adventures of teaching the first boys sewing class in the county. The family eventually moved to Silver Spring, MD where Mrs. Regan retired in the early 1970s after a 30 year career. She truly enjoyed playing bridge, golf and hosting dinner parties. Another favorite past time was designing and making her own clothes. Her husband died in 1993. Survivors include two children, Debbie Regan of Silver Spring, MD and Richard (Maryanne) of Bonita Springs, FL and one granddaughter Tawanna (Mark) Moore also of Silver Spring. A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 14, 2 p.m. at HINES-RINALDI FUNERAL HOME, 11800 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, MD. Interment private.
