SEYFERT, Verda M. (Champion)

Funeral for Verda Marie Seyfert, 95, Grandfield, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, Grandfield, with the Rev. Tiffany Smith, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery, Grandfield, under direction of Gray Funeral Home, Grandfield. Verda passed away Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, in Lawton. Mrs. Seyfert was born April 23, 1916, in Grandfield to John and Agnes (Rodgers) Champion. She moved to Fort Cobb, at an early age and attended Sunset Elementary School. She graduated from Fort Cobb High School with the Class of 1934. She then attended Oklahoma College for Women at Chickasha and Central State College for Teachers, graduating in 1937 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. She moved to Loveland for her first teaching job, where she met her future husband. She married Ralph Seyfert Oct. 5, 1940, in Fort Cobb. She taught in the Loveland and Chattanooga School Systems, retiring in 1976. She was a member of Rich Valley Club and the Tillman County Retired Teachers Association. She enjoyed gardening and farm life in general, and enjoyed visiting with friends. She loved her family and extended family and enjoyed spending time with them. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Grandfield. Survivors include, one son, John Seyfert and wife, Patricia, of Lake Dallas, Texas; two daughters: Jennifer Cleary and husband, Charles, of Cleveland, Miss.; Susan McCary and husband, Tim, of Chattanooga; one brother, Wayne Champion and wife, Bernadine, of Carrollton, Texas; one sister-in-law, Hazel Narramore, of Grants, N.M.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Seyfert; her parents, John and Agnes Champion; a brother, Ray Champion and his wife, Alice; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Evie Johnsey and husband, Lee; and Lorene Whitworth and her husband, Orval. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Memorial Cemetery, P.O. Box 360, Grandfield 73546.
