SMITH, Dorothy A. (Tucker)
Funeral for former Apache resident Dorothy Ann Smith, 85, Front Royal, Va., will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, Apache, with the Rev. Rick Fennel officiating. Mrs. Smith died Monday, July 9, 2007, in Front Royal. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery under direction of Crews Funeral Home. She was born Aug. 19, 1921, in Apache, to Virgil and Wanda Tucker. She was a graduate of Apache High School and Oklahoma College for Women at Chickasha. She married Vernon L. Smith on Sept. 20, 1941, in Norman. He died June 18, 1998. While her husband was an Air Force pilot, they lived in many places in the United States as well as Germany. After his discharge from the military they lived in Apache, Lawton and Cache. She was a secretary for Kennedy and Ford Insurance and also the district attorney's office in Lawton. She was very involved in the Christian Church, where she sang in the choir. She had moved to Front Royal to be near her son. Survivors include a son, Richard L. Smith, Front Royal; a grandson, Christopher Smith, Virginia; a granddaughter, Jennifer Plauger, Maryland; a sister,Virginia Darnell, Apache; and many nieces, nephews and friends in the Apache and Lawton area. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Louise Waterbury.
