A memorial mass for Dorothy Elizabeth Surber Speakman, 94, will be at 11 a.m., Friday, July 11, 2008, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Reverends Jovita Okonkwo and Stuart Crevecour officiating. Born Aug. 20, 1913, in Ardmore to Robert Currin and Etta Sloan Surber, she died Friday, June 13, 2008. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 56 years, Judge Streeter Speakman Jr. She graduated from Ardmore High School, Oklahoma College for Women, in Chickasha and Oklahoma A&M. She was a homemaker and taught elementary school at Gene Autry and Sapulpa. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, P.E.O. and served on the financial committee of the Sacred Heart Church in Sapulpa. Survivors include two daughters, Currin Bradley and her husband, Tim, Tulsa, and Susan Hatta and her husband, Tadaaki, Elyria, Ohio; a son, Streeter Speakman III, Sapulpa; four grandchildren, Thomas Bradley, Portland, Ore., Mariah Hatta, Little Rock, Ark., Robert Hatta and his wife, Megan, Cleveland Heights, Ohio and Benjamin Hatta, Santa Monica, Calif.; and two cousins, Mike Surber, Ardmore and Wesley Surber Coffman and his wife, Elaine, Dallas. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today, July 9, 2008, at Sacred Heart. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the building fund of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and to the Creek Pet Adoptions, 12 Honeybear Ln., Kellyville, Okla. 74039. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.
