TIPPETT, Mary E. (Douglass)

Mary E. Tippett, 82, of 122 N. Locust, Astoria, Ill., passed away at 7:03 a.m. Monday, June 30, 2008, at Graham Hospital in Canton. She was born July 1, 1925, in Hot Springs, Ark., a daughter of Kavanaugh and Clara Vivian (Hargrave) Douglass. On Nov. 18, 1951, she married James Tippett in Hot Springs, Ark. He survives. Also surviving are her son, Mark (Jill) Tippett of Lewistown; her grandson, Tyler Tippett of East Peoria; her granddaughter, Lauren Tippett of Lewistown; her brother, Jim (Barbara) Douglass of Buford, Ga.; and her sister, Mary Eilene Goins of Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Douglass. Mary worked at Stevens Publishing Co. in Astoria for many years. She attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasaw, Okla., and was a member of the Astoria United Methodist Church. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 5, at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, with the Rev. Beth Nelson officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 4, at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Interment will be in the Astoria Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Astoria Rescue Squad. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of the arrangements.
