WADE, Wilma L. (Taylor)
Wilma L. Wade, Our mother, died peacefully on December 22, 2008, at 1:10 a.m., following a short illness. Mother was born to William B. and Sarah E. Taylor on October 22, 1914, sharing the spotlight with her twin sister, Velma. Both attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha until marriage. Mother devoted herself to her family, friends and community activities in Edmond during our childhood and was a master seamstress. Upon the dissolution of her marriage, it was necessary for Mother to reinvent herself. She attended business school in Bartlesville and soon was employed by Reda Pump. Shortly, she advanced to become an executive secretary for Cities Service Oil Company, where she very capably served until her retirement. In mid-life, Mother met and married a wonderful man, Robert C. Wade, Jr. They shared 27 years of marriage until Bob's death in 2001. Mother and Bob and Velma and Jack Nafus hosted countless family gatherings over the years. Many enjoyable summer weekends arid holidays were also spent at ""Wade's Shack"" on Grand Lake, where Mother got one of the biggest laughs of her life watching her granddaughter, a terrified look on her face, make the turn on water skis during her ""maiden voyage."" Mother always admired Traci's courage and determination. Mother was a strong, determined woman, independent of spirit, who railed against any hint of reliance on others for her own well-being. However, at age 92 she determined that she should be closer to family, and so moved to an assisted living facility in Oklahoma City. We have been privileged to assist our mother, who always remained ""in charge"" until recently. In addition to her parents and husband, Mother was preceded in death by her grandson, Wayne Taylor Dove, and 5 siblings; Connie M. Taylor, Frank Taylor, Mattie McCormick, Sam Taylor, and Velma Nafus. She is survived by: her sister, Jewel Holland of Bartlesville; son and daughter -in-law, William Taylor and Marnie Dove of Baton Rouge, LA and Moore, daughter and son-in-law, Sherrill and Keith Mullen of Moore; grand daughter and grandson-in-law, Traci Mullen and Andrew J. Lee, Sr. of Moore; grand- daughter-in-law, Vanessa Dove of Port Allen, LA; great grandsons, Lucas Taylor and Logan Christopher Dove of Port Allen, LA; stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Dr. Curtis and Kathy Wade of Bellingham, WA; stepson Clint Wade, formerly of Tulsa; and step-great -granddaughters, Erin and Monica Wade of Bellingham, WA. A graveside service will be conducted by Stanleys Funeral Home of Tulsa at 1 p.m., Saturday, December 27, 2008, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa. Stanleys 743-6271.
