WALKER, Elna (Moss)
Elna Walker passed away Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2011, at Via Christi Village. She was 95. Elna was born July 15, 1916, in Garden City, Kan., to Ellis and Miriam Moss. She grew up with two older siblings, David and Dora, and three younger, June, Billy and Helen. The surviving sibling, Helen Moss Litle, and Elna stayed very close throughout the years. Elna graduated Chickasha High School in 1934. She went on to attend the Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha. On Oct. 30, 1937, she and Bill Walker were married in Chickasha. The union lasted 54 years until his passing in 1991. She continued to share that she had never met another person, before or after, that was as special as he was. She continued to share in addition to the life and memories of her late husband, her greatest blessings were her children and their families: Diana Nelsen and husband Dean, of Goddard, Kan.; Bill Walker Jr. and wife Lyda of Ponca City; Miriam Carson and husband Jerry of Tyler, Texas; and Donna Morgan and husband Chris of Corpus Christi, Texas. She had 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was deeply loved by every member of her family. Besides being a homemaker and raising the family, Elna worked at Conoco before retiring in 1978. She continued to enjoy retirement life at Via Christi Village, where she liked to play cards and bingo. She also enjoyed going to Bible study, visiting with friends and continuing the Lord's work at Hartford Avenue Church of Christ. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, the Trout Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Don Huddleston of Hartford Avenue Church of Christ officiating. Five of Elna Walker's grandsons will be casket bearers: Richard Nelsen, John Mark Nelsen, Kenneth Nelsen, Luke Nelsen and Brian Carson. Earl Isenberg will also serve as a casket bearer. The burial will follow the service at Odd Fellows Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 1904 North Union, Suite 103, Ponca City, OK 74601.
