Funeral for Aline Louie Cole White-Wood, 93, Lawton, will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with William F. Watkins and the Rev. Tom Willoughby officiating. Mrs. White-Wood died Tuesday, April 29, 2008, in a Lawton care center. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Chickasha. She was born Sept. 29, 1914, in Chickasha to William Franklin and Agatha Nelson Cole. She grew up in the Norge/Pioneer community southwest of Chickasha and attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha. When she was 18 she started teaching in the one-room schoolhouse in Norge. She was also the janitor and principal and cooked soup and hot chocolate on the coal stove to share with her students, many of whom did not bring food to school. She married James C. White on Aug. 11, 1935, in Chickasha. She later completed her bachelor's degree at Central State University in Edmond and received her master's degree from the University of Oklahoma. Her teaching career spanned 43 years including time at Pioneer, Elm Flat, Rush Springs, 11 years at Friend School east of Chickasha, where she taught, coached and assisted her husband who was principal of the 12th grade program. She assisted in programs and musicals, playing the piano for school programs, funerals, weddings and church and continued that until she was about 80. In 1956 she and her husband left Grady County and moved to Lawton to become classroom teachers. She taught algebra at Central Junior High School and later Tomlinson Junior High School until her retirement in 1977. Her husband died Feb. 17, 1990. She was involved in many organizations including the Classroom Teacher's Association, National Education Association, and was recognized as Lawton's Teacher of the Year in 1975. She and her husband were department teachers and she was a pianist at Lawton First Baptist Church. She married Floyd Wood in October 1995 when she was 81 and he 86. Survivors include her husband of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Lane Fabian, Allen, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Karen White, Greensboro, Ga.; her children by marriage: Gwen and Jerry Phelps, Lawton; and Helen and C.L. Craig, Shawnee; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty Ruth and Larry Dowell, Antioch, Calif.; four grandchildren and their spouses: Angela and Justin Mauck, George West, Texas; Christopher and Lisa White, Covington, Ga.; Mark and Wendy White, Richmond, Va.; and Carrie White, Brooklyn, N.Y.; and two great-grandchildren.
