NORMAN - Phyllis Gayle Baker, 87, of Norman, passed away Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014. She was born Sept. 10, 1926, in Poteau to Frank Preston and Elizabeth Young. Phyllis grew up in Poteau and attended Poteau High School, where she was a majorette and band queen.

Winona M. Miller

Winona Marie Miller Winona Marie Miller (20 Feb 1926-14 Jan 2014) Winona Miller was born Winona Fugate in Hobart, OK to Omar and Duchesse Fugate. Duchesse had contracted smallpox from one of her students and was near death when she gave birth. Winona contracted smallpox three days later and both nearly died, but were nursed back to health by a lady doctor who gave them specialized care.

Donna M. Kelsey

Donna Mae Kelsey, Ponca City, left this life at age 90 on Jan. 16, 2014 to be with her Lord and Savior. She was born April 4, 1923, in Burbank, in an old two-story house which she called "the old big house." Donna was the second child born to Arthur and Susan Mae Butler Jacques.

Kathleen V. Beatty

Beatty, Kathleen V. Kathleen V. Beatty, age 66, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2014, after a long illness, under the care of Hospicare and Palliative Care Services of Tompkins County. Born on April 4, 1947, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was a graduate of P.S. Dupont High School in Wilmington, Delaware. She attended Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts on full scholarship.

FREDERICK - Funeral for Frederick resident Cassandra Wand, 58, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Jackson Funeral Home Chapel in Frederick with Pastor Sam Moyd, Zoe Christian Center, officiating. Ms. Wand passed from this life Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, in Lawton. Burial will follow in Frederick Memorial Cemetery under direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick.

Betty L. Smiley

Betty Lou Smiley, 75, of Tulsa, passed away, Tuesday, January 7, 2014. Betty was born January 28, 1938 in Lindsay, OK, daughter of the late George Clyde and Hattie Elizabeth (Anderson) Ridings. She majored in music at the Oklahoma College for Women. She was a member of Kirk of the Hills Church, active in the church choir and a longtime member of Tulsa Symphonia Chorus.

Helen A. Cosper

Helen (Marmion) Cosper was born March 14, 1921 in Paris, France of French parents. Helen was the only child of the Marmions. Her mother was an actress and opera singer. Her father was an artist-designer. The Marmions came to the U.S.A. via Canada before she was three years of age. They settled down near Chicago.

Benne B. Alder

Benne Bernice Alder Sept. 22, 1928 û Jan. 9, 2014 Long time Davis resident, Benne Bernice (Daniel) Alder, passed peacefully on Jan. 9, 2014. Born in Oklahoma to John and Vivian Daniel, she graduated in 1946 from Classen High School in Oklahoma, received a bachelor's degree in rhetoric from Oklahoma College of Women, a master's degree in theatre from University of Michigan, and a Ph.D.

Reba M. Hendricks

Reba Merle Goldsmith Hendricks, longtime resident of the area and daughter of one of the pio-neer families, died Sun-day, December 29, 2013, at Ardmore, at the age of 89. The family will be having a private service at a later date. Reba was born in Dim-mit, Texas, on October 16, 1924. She lived in Okla-homa, Kansas and Texas, and made her home in the Ardmore area the last sev-eral decades.

Orpha L. Powell

Orpha Loewen Powell, 97, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 30. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Orpha Loewen Powell, who was the fourth of five children, was born to John and Amelia Goerke Loewen in Hitchcock on Aug. 31, 1916.
