VIGIL, Thaymeus B.

Thaymeus Bitseedy Vigil was born on April 17, 1928 in the country near Fort Cobb, Oklahoma to Clayton and Catherine Bitseedy as one of 11 children. She graduated from the Riverside Indian School in 1947, studied voice and earned a degree at Bacone College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education from the Oklahoma College for Women in 1954. After graduation Thaymeus moved to New Mexico to teach elementary school where she met her husband Charlie Vigil with whom she had five children, who, in turn gave her eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

JOHNSON, Marjory (Foncanon)

Marjory (Foncannon) Johnson, 91, passed away Friday March 15, 2013, at her home in San Luis Obispo. Marjory was born in Ashland, Kan., attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, Okla., and graduated with a degree in English in 1943. Marjory grew up in libraries, where she shelved books after school and then professionally started as a cataloger at Washington State College Library. After her move to San Luis Obispo in 1950, she worked for 36 years with the San Luis Obispo City/County Library. She had been the Assistant Library Director for the last 17 years.

COLEMAN, Kelly Ross

Kelly Ross Coleman, 52, went to be with the Lord, Saturday March 16, 2013, in Liloan, Cebu Philippines. He was born in Blackwell on Sept. 30, 1960, the son of Robert and Carol Coleman. He graduated from Braman High School in 1978 and along with a Master Plumbers license; he was an Emergency Medical Technician and received a bachelor's degree in Native American Studies from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha. He spent a year in Korea teaching English as a second language. He returned to Ponca City for a year and in December of 2008 he moved to the Philippines.

MILLER, Bettye K.

Bettye Kathryn Nichols Miller passed away on September 13, 2012, in Eugene, Oregon. She was born to Luther Thomas Nichols & Lola Alice Burns Nichols in Fort Smith, Arkansas, on July 8, 1920. Bettye was a graduate of Classen High School and attended the Oklahoma College for Women and Oklahoma State University.

BROOKS, Curtis

Curtis Alva Brooks Memorial service for Curtis Alva Brooks, age 92 of Chickasha, will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 29, 2013 at the Epworth United Methodist Church. Dr. Rockford Johnson will officiate. Curtis Alva Brooks was born the son of Luther Brooks and Annie S. Hollis Brooks on Feb. 9, 1921 in Purcell. He died on March 26, 2013 in Chickasha. Curtis graduated from Pauls Valley High School in 1938 and graduated from Oklahoma A & M College (now Oklahoma State University) in 1942. He married Gwendolyn DeVere Brooks on April 2, 1941 in Stillwater.

KNUDSEN, Martha S. (Stoltenberg)

Martha Ellen Stoltenberg Knudsen 1925 ~ 2013 Ellen Stoltenberg Knudsen passed away in Orem, Utah, on March 15, 2013, surrounded by her adoring family. Ellen was born on a farm outside Lone Wolf, Oklahoma, on July 8, 1925, to Richard Heinrich Stoltenberg, a German immigrant, and Grace Talbot, a school teacher who instilled a love of good books.

OTEY, Donna G. (Baker)

Graveside service for Donna Gayle Otey, 66, of Alex, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the Alex Cemetery. Donna Gayle Otey was born Dec. 21, 1946 in Chickasha, the daughter of Dial Edwin and Frances Ellen (Peavey) Baker. She died March 26, 2013 at her home in Alex. Donna lived in Alex her entire life. She graduated from Alex High School in 1964 and attended East Central University and Oklahoma College for Women. She and Larry Joe Otey were married March 1, 1968 in Alex. They farmed in the Alex area from 1968-1985. Donna worked at Chickasha Bank from 1985-1997.

MAVITY, Debra Ann

Funeral service for Debra Ann Mavity, 61 of Lawton will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Evans, Lead Pastor of Dayspring Community Church and Dr. Charlie Bear, officiating.

Debbie passed away on Friday, March 22, 2013 in Lawton.

Burial will be at Highland Cemetery.

STALLBAUMER, Ted

Funeral service for Ted Stallbaumer, 44, of Chickasha, will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 22, 2013 at the Holy Name Catholic Church. Ted Stallbaumer was born January 11, 1969 in Tulsa. He was the son of Mark and Sue Ann (Timberlake) Stallbaumer. Ted died March 19, 2013 in Oklahoma City. Ted graduated from Chickasha High School in 1987. While in high school, Ted played drums in the Chickasha High School band and was active in the weight-lifting program. He was also student announcer in the press box for the Junior Varsity football games and High School games.

Campus Mourns Death of Regent Ed Hicks

Chickasha restaurateur Ed Hicks, a former member of the USAO Board of Regents, died early Friday. Appointed by Gov. Frank Keating, Hicks served on USAO’s governing board from 1999-2006.

Services are scheduled March 20 at 2 p.m. in Te Ata Memorial Auditorium on the campus of the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha.
