Lean and Green:  
Due to institution-wide budget restrictions, the SLCE program is determined to minimize expenditures for the Spring 2010 term. We have taken this as an opportunity to “recycle” the campus by utilizing discarded materials and un-used facilities. For example, the campus garden has adopted the dilapidated barn structure and metal storage shed south of campus, near the campus garden, and we have been able to use much of the material in the barn (and some surplus furniture) to build the compost facility. Further, the grant writing course and independent projects focus on environmental issues, we are able to develop a signature green theme to the SLCE program at USAO.
