CHICKASHA – In a two game series, the Drovers outscored the Bethany Swedes 29-9 on Tuesday afternoon at Bill Smith Ballpark.
In game one, USAO fell behind 5-0 but turned the game around in the bottom of the third with four runs.
The Drovers were tied at seven when left fielder Jared Coon hit a grand slam to put the Drovers in the lead for the first time all game. That inning, the Drovers went on to score 12 runs and won 19-8.
In the game, senior Newt Compton went 5-for-5 with three runs and six RBIs. Third baseman Heath Wilda went 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs.
It was lead off hitter Romus Cezar who was the team’s leading scorer, however, with four runs and a single RBI.
Robert Summers, Konrad Mueller and Coon each scored two runs in the game and Nolan Crowdus, Brian Vigo and Blake Pruett each had a single run.
Kevin Schultz earned the win in the game after pitching the last three and two-thirds innings. He gave up just one earned run and threw seven strikeouts.
In the second game, the Drovers pulled out the lead early, giving up the only run — a solo homer — in the seventh. USAO won 10-1.
Compton had another strong game with two runs and three RBIs. Wilda had two runs and two RBIs while Cezar scored another two for the Drovers.
Coon, Wilda, Compton and Chance Hill each hit a home run in the game.
Simon Mitchell earned the win after five strikeouts in five innings on the mound.
The Drovers are 8-5 overall. They start conference play at 4 p.m. Thursday with a single nine-inning game at No. 1 Oklahoma City. They finish the series at home with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday.
