CHICKASHA – The Drovers struggled in all three games against the tough Oklahoma Baptist Bison in their conference opening series.
After falling 5-2 on Wednesday in Shawnee, OBU traveled to Chickasha for a Saturday afternoon doubleheader.
The Bison quickly pulled into the lead when their third batter, Alan Trayler, hit a home run. Within the next few innings, OBU had a 3-0 lead.
The Drovers didn’t score until the bottom of the fourth, when Garan Qualls hit one out of the park. USAO’s only other run was another homer in the bottom of the seventh, this time by Brandon Jewett.
Andy Greenslitt pitched a complete game against the Bison. He threw three strikeouts.
The Drovers fell 4-2 to the Bison and hoped for better luck in game two with Caleb Martin on the mound.
Martin also pitched a complete game, throwing two strikeouts and giving up just one earned run.
OBU scored its first run in the second, and USAO responded with one of its own when Jake Dunbar singled to center field, bringing Regulo Moy across the plate.
Giving up another run in the last inning of the game, the Drovers lost their third game to OBU 2-1.
The Drovers are 9-4 overall and 0-3 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. They take on NCAA Division II University of Central Oklahoma at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bill Smith Ballpark and continue conference play at home at 2 p.m. Thursday against Saint Gregory’s University.
