PLAINVIEW, Texas – Despite four errors, the University of Science and Arts cranked out 19 hits to beat No. 19 Wayland Baptist 12-10 in Sunday’s series finale. USAO took the final two games of the series to give the Drovers a very legitimate shot at cracking the top-25 with a 26-6 record overall and 10-5 record in conference.
With three players collecting four hits on the day, USAO jumped out to a 4-0 lead through the first four innings. In the fifth inning, Kevin Carby scored on a single by Luke Krobath, and Brandt Lierle singled home Shea Hall. Josh Moore followed with a three-run home run as USAO posted five runs in the fifth inning to take a 9-1 lead.
With the help of four runs in the eighth inning, WBU rallied to tie the score 10-10 going into the final frame. USAO responded with two runs in the top of the ninth. Carby’s two RBI single to left field drove in Brad Sylvester and Moore for the game winning runs.
Ricky Duke collected the complete game win and improved to 6-2 on the season. Carby finished the day 4-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored and three RBIs while Krobath and Sylvester went 4-for-5 on the day.
USAO moved into third place in the league standings with a weekend series against No. 1 and league-leading Lubbock Christian at Bill Smith Ballpark. The Drovers tune up with a Tuesday doubleheader at Hillsdale College.
