OKLAHOMA CITY – The Drovers stepped out onto a professional field, some for the first time on Tuesday night, eager to show their talent in the unique venue.
USAO got the rare opportunity to play a non-conference game at the Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. They took on NCAA Division II University of Central Oklahoma on Tuesday night but fell in nine-innings to the Bronchos.
The Bricktown Ballpark is home of the Oklahoma City RedHawks, a Triple A affiliate of the Houston Astros.
Despite the excitement of the venue, the Drovers quickly fell behind when UCO’s left fielder knocked one out of the park, earning a three RBI homer.
The Drovers gave up another three runs before, late in the game, junior Brandon Jewett got a hold of the ball, sending it several feet over the back fence. The long homer kept the Drovers from being shut out.
Four Drovers got a chance to pitch on the RedHawk’s mound in the game. Sophomore Tyler Porter started for the Drovers and pitched nearly six innings.
The Bronchos won the game 6-1. USAO has an overall record of 21-14.
The Drovers head to Plainview, Texas, to take on Wayland Baptist in a three-game series this weekend. They return home to play Lubbock Christian on April 15 and 16.
