CHICKASHA – A strong fifth inning on Saturday afternoon against Wayland Baptist gave the Drovers their 20th win of the season with an 11-3 victory.
Originally scheduled as a doubleheader, the conference teams were only able to play one game on Saturday after a two-hour rain delay before the doubleheader. They will not reschedule the game.
Starting two hours late, the Drovers got on the board in the first inning when Heath Wilda scored off a single by Zach Gonzalez.
Three innings later, USAO extended its lead when Blake Pruett hit a two-RBI homer, bringing home Chance Hill along with himself.
With a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the fifth, the Drovers exploded, scoring seven runs — all with two outs on the board.
The Drovers’ final run came in the sixth inning when Brian Vigo scored off a single by Owen Adams.
Adams had three RBIs in the game, going 3-for-4 from the plate. Konrad Mueller went 2-for-4 with one run and two RBIs.
Wilda, Hill and Pruett each scored two runs in the game. Also scoring were Summers, Gonzalez and Hayden George.
Seth Sturgeon (4-1) pitched six innings, throwing five strikeouts. The only batter he walked all game was the first one. Aaron Copfer pitched the final inning, striking out his final two batters.
The Drovers advance to 20-3 on the season and 3-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
