CHICKASHA – Monday afternoon was all about the Drovers as USAO took on — and outrun — the Hillsdale Free Will Baptist Saints 22-0.
Thanks to the mercy rule, the nine-inning game was ended in the seventh. Pitching for the Drovers was sophomore Tyler Porter, who faced 26 batters in six innings and gave up just two hits and no runs. Junior Kyle Moralez saw some time on the mound as well, throwing the last inning.
Designated hitter Brandon Jewett went 3-for-3. He scored three runs and batted three runners in. Andrew Reyes, who also went 3-for-3, had two runs and two RBIs.
Senior left fielder Jake Dunbar went 4-for-4, scoring three runs and batting four runners in.
Even some Drover pitchers found themselves at the plate late in the game. Senior pitcher Caleb Martin hit a two-RBI single to right center in the sixth, scoring USAO pitchers Andy Greenslitt and David Garcia.
The romping brings USAO to 22-17 overall. They are 9-13 in conference play.
In their next home series, the Drovers take on conference foe Lubbock Christian in a three-game series spanning two days. They will play a doubleheader against the Chaparrals on Friday beginning at 2 p.m. and finish the series with a single nine-inning game at 1 p.m. Saturday.
