CHICKASHA – In two games against non-conference opponent Roosevelt University, the Drovers (8-12) scored a total of 18 runs — three of which were homers — on Tuesday afternoon at Bill Smith Ballpark.
Unfortunately for the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, RU’s Lakers (2-1) also scored big, taking both games by two runs each and scoring those winning runs in top of the seventh.
In game one, USAO lead off hitter Ryan Wescott hit two doubles in his four at bats. He scored two runs in the game as well.
Third baseman Jaime Gurrola, who hit a home run in each game, went 2-for-4 from the plate with three RBIs in the first half of the doubleheader. In game two, he went 3-for-4, batting two runners in and scoring three himself.
Chris Musick, Joe Black, Warren Stehn and Colton Baker also scored in the first game.
In game two, Cody Reiger hit a home run on his way to 3-for-5 batting on the day. He also batted three runners in during the game.
Joe Barron hit a single and a double in his four at bats, scoring two runs and batting in a runner.
Also scoring in the second game were Wescott, Musick, Baker, Black and Francisco Bolanos.
The Drovers next series will be a conference matchup as USAO takes on No. 20 Texas Wesleyan. The entire series will be at Bill Smith Ballpark in Chickasha.
Game one will be a nine-inning game set for 3 p.m. on Friday afternoon. The first pitch of Saturday’s doubleheader is scheduled for noon.
