Drovers split against Wayland Baptist

Junior Conner Bridgman hit three home runs in two games against No. 14 Wayland Baptist to lead the Drovers to a split against the Pioneers on Friday afternoon.

In the first game, Bridgman hit two of three with two runs and four RBIs. In the second game, he had a hit, a run and an RBI.

The Drovers won the first game 8-4 after a six-run fifth inning.

Josh Moore hit two of three — including a home run — with three RBIs in the first game.

Pitcher Newt Compton started on the mound, and Alfonso Cardenas came in during the fifth to help give the Drovers their win.

During the second game, Pitcher Nate Hammons had an eight-strike out performance in the Drovers’ 4-3 loss.

USAO started out behind after the first with a score of 3-1, but along with Bridgman’s home run in the second game, Regulo Moy hit a home run, giving the Drovers two runs in the fourth and tying the game at 3-3. Moy also had an RBI during the second game.

The score remained tied until the top of the seventh inning when the Pioneers took the lead.

The Drovers will finish the series starting at 1 p.m. Saturday. They move to an overall record of 13-3 and a conference record of 2-3.
