CHICKASHA – With 10 strikeouts thrown on Thursday afternoon, sophomore pitcher David Garcia led the Drovers to their 10th win of the season and a first Sooner Athletic Conference victory.
Garcia, who is now 2-2, pitched the first seven innings of the nine-inning game against Saint Gregory’s University. In the 29 batters he faced, he gave up just four hits and one run.
After getting three immediate outs in the first inning, first baseman Garan Qualls doubled to left center early in the second. During the next at bat, senior Conner Bridgman hit his third home run of the season, giving the Drovers a 2-0 lead.
In the next inning, senior shortstop Regulo Moy scored off an RBI by Jake Dunbar.
Neither team scored again until the top of the sixth, when the Drovers gave up a run. They quickly responded with one of their own when third baseman Cody Bridgman doubled, bringing Robert Summers across the plate.
The win advances the Drovers to 10-5 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
The Drovers finish the series with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Friday in Shawnee. They play their next home game against Iowa Wesleyan at 2 p.m. on Monday.
