CHICKASHA – Two strong games Saturday games gave the Drovers their fourth conference sweep of the season as they overtook the Saint Gregory’s Cavaliers.
On Thursday in Shawnee, the Drovers took game one with a 5-4 victory. Saturday’s doubleheader saw 5-2 and 11-3 USAO home victories.
In Saturday’s first game, the Drovers were down 2-0 when they put themselves on the board for the first time in the fifth when Brian Vigo scored off a triple by Romus Cezar.
The Drovers followed with four more runs in the sixth inning to win the game. First baseman Zach Gonzalez put the Drovers in the lead with his seventh home run of the season, scoring himself and Austin Ardrey.
Newt Compton followed Gonzalez with a double to right field. Vigo brought him home with second double in a row. Vigo scored a few plays later on a passed ball.
Eddie Cervantes pitched the complete game, throwing eight strikeouts and giving up just four hits. Neither of the Cavs runs was earned.
The Drovers exploded in the second game of the afternoon, winning it 11-3.
In that game, Cezar went 2-for-3 with three runs. Heath Wilda went 2-for-2, scored a run and batted two runners in.
Vigo, who scored once in the game, had three RBIs. Robert Summers, who came in for Jared Coon in the fifth inning, hit a two-RBI double to right field.
Also scoring were Coon, Brandon Jewett, Gonzalez, Compton, Ardrey and Konrad Mueller.
Adam Wilson started on the mound for the Drovers, throwing four strikeouts and earning his fifth win of the season.
The Drovers are 26-17 overall and 16-11 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
They end the season with a three-game series against No. 7 Oklahoma Baptist. The first game will be Senior Day at Bill Smith Ballpark, beginning at 3 p.m. Thursday. They will finish the series with a doubleheader in Shawnee on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
