Drovers sweep Mustangs, Martin breaks record

CHICKASHA – Senior Pitcher Caleb Martin broke a new school record Saturday afternoon while leading the Drovers to their second win of the day and a sweep over Mount Mercy University.

After pitching a five-inning complete game on Saturday afternoon, Martin earned his 24th career win, setting a new career wins record at USAO. Martin threw five strikeouts in the game.

The game went into the bottom of the fifth, when USAO earned their 13th run and ended the game 13-3.

Garan Qualls went 3-for-3, batting four runners in and scoring three runs himself.

Senior Conner Bridgman hit a homer on his way to a three run and two RBI game.

Andrew Reyes also scored three runs for the Drovers in the second game of the doubleheader.

The Drovers had the same amount of success over the Mustangs in the first game as well. USAO started off with seven runs in the first inning, thanks in part to a three-run homer by Vince Linke.

After scoring four more runs in the next three innings, Brandon Jewett knocked another one out of the park in the fifth to bring in USAO’s 12th and final run of the game. The Drovers won 12-2.

Sophomore pitcher David Garcia threw four strikeouts in his complete game against Mount Mercy on Saturday afternoon.

The Drovers are 9-1 overall and sporting a nine-game winning streak.

The Drovers begin conference play on Thursday at Oklahoma Baptist. The first pitch is at 6 p.m. They return home to finish the series against the Bison with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
