CHICKASHA – After taking the first win Friday afternoon in the series against Rogers State University, the Drovers could not overcome the Hillcats again and fell in both games of the doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
USAO started off struggling on Saturday, giving up four runs in the first inning of the first game. The Drovers gave up another run in third before finding themselves in a bases-loaded situation in the fourth. A diving fly catch by left-fielder Jake Dunbar ended the inning without allowing another run.
Immediately following, Drover senior Cody Bridgman doubled to left field. A few batters later, Bridgman came home off an RBI by shortstop Regulo Moy. It was USAO’s only run of the game.
The Drovers ended up falling 10-1 to the Hillcats in game one of the doubleheader. And the Drovers didn’t start the second game much stronger, falling to a 5-0 deficit by the third inning.
Bridgman also scored a run in the second game, again off an RBI by Moy. The bases were loaded in the bottom of third when Moy had a two-RBI hit out to center field. Bridgman and his brother, Conner Bridgman, both scored on the play.
The Drovers grabbed a third run in the following inning when RSU’s pitcher walked Garan Qualls, bringing Dunbar across the plate. Dunbar had gotten on base with a single to center field.
USAO was not able to come up with any additional runs through the next three innings and fell 5-3 in game two.
The Drovers fall to 21-13 overall and 9-10 in conference play.
USAO has the unique opportunity to play a Tuesday night non-conference game at Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. The Drovers will take on the University of Central Oklahoma beginning at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free.
The Drovers host Lubbock Christian in their next home series. They play a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. April 15 and finish the series the following day at 1 p.m. All three games are at home.
