CHICKASHA – Back-to-back homers in the bottom of the ninth earned the Drovers their 11th win of the season on Tuesday afternoon in a conference game against Northwestern Oklahoma State.
The Drovers were down 9-8 entering the bottom of the ninth and final inning of the ball game. Heath Wilda was first at bat for the Drovers and hit a solo homer to left field to tie the game. Immediately following, Brandon Jewett went up the plate and hit another solo homer to the exact same spot.
The Drovers won the game 10-9. It was their first game against the Rangers this season. They will play two more single nine-inning games in April.
The Drovers were down in the game 6-0 in the bottom of the fifth when they started a rally. Both Konrad Mueller and Newt Compton had scored when Zach Gonzalez doubled up the middle to score Jewett and Jared Coon.
The next at bat, Blake Taylor hit a three RBI homer, also scoring Gonzalez and Brian Vigo.
Jewett hit a solo homer in the seventh inning to put the Drovers in position to tie the game. He ended the game with three runs and two RBIs.
Closer Josh Goodman pitched the final two-thirds of the ninth and earned the win.
The Drovers are 11-10 overall and 3-4 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
They travel to Texas to take on No. 4 Lubbock Christian for a three-game series starting Thursday. Their next home game will be on Tuesday against Northwood University. First pitch will be at 2 p.m.
