CHICKASHA – Three Drover starters were named 2012 Sooner Athletic Baseball All-Conference after strong performances in the field and at the plate this season.

Third baseman Heath Wilda and outfielder Jared Coon were named All-Conference First Team while first baseman Zach Gonzalez took home All-Conference Second Team honors.

Jared Coon
Coon, a junior from McNeese State, led the Drovers in almost every batting category this season. Starting in every game, Coon is the only Drover to end the season with a batting average above 0.400.

He leads the team in hits (70), doubles (22), home runs (11) and RBIs (50). Additionally, he ties teammate Romus Cezar in total runs with 49.

Additionally, Coon is second in the NAIA in doubles per game (0.478), fourth in total doubles (22) and sixth in total bases per game (2.72). He’s also in the top 25 in hits per game and home runs per game.

He comes in tied for first in school history in doubles and third in hits.

Coon, who was named SAC Player of the Week twice this season, started the season in right field but moved infield when second baseman Robert Summers was injured.

He is a sociology junior from Shawnee and is the son of Russ and Alana Coon.


Heath Wilda
Wilda, a business junior from Oklahoma State, was the starting third baseman in every game for the Drovers this season.

He comes in second to teammate Coon in batting average (0.394), hits (67), doubles (19) and RBIs (45). Wilda scored 38 runs for the Drovers this season.

He’s 10th in the division in doubles per game (0.413) and 22nd in total doubles.

Wilda is originally from Chickasha. He is the son of Kevin and Tammie Wilda.


Zach Gonzalez
Gonzalez, USAO’s starting first baseman, ended the season with a 0.312 batting average and 31 runs for the Drovers. Additionally, he hit seven home runs, which is second on the team this season.

Gonzalez had 16 doubles in his 49 hits on the season. He also batted 38 players in, which is third on the team.

At first base, he is in the top 50 in the NAIA in total putouts with 335. He has a season fielding percentage of 0.971.

The physical education junior joined the Drovers from Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa. He is from Enid and is the son of Ed and Maritza Gonzalez and Kent and Sally Cotarelo.
