CHICKASHA – The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (8-5, 0-1) met a tough match up in the Sooner Athletic Conference opener against No. 5 Oklahoma City on Thursday afternoon.

The Stars (7-2, 1-0), who won Thursday’s game 17-7, travel to USAO to finish the series with a Friday afternoon doubleheader at Bill Smith Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The big inning for USAO came in the top of the seventh. The game was already in Oklahoma City’s hands but four Drover runs came in to help gain momentum.

Third baseman Rafael Pena went 2-for-4 , including a two-run homer in the seventh inning to lead the team in the hitting category. Owen Adams, USAO catcher, also went 2-for-4, including a two-RBI single to right field to score the Drovers first run of the game.

Chris Musick and Jaime Gurrola also grabbed runs batted in and contributed to the Drovers’ 11-hit day.  Musick’s RBI came in the seventh inning when he scored Francisco Bolanoas on a single to right field.

Gurrola’s RBI came in the top of the sixth when he split the left center gap to score pinch hitter Blake Scannell, who also got a hit to left center to get on to base for the game.

The pitcher of record for the Drovers was Jason England (1-2), who lasted four and a third innings while striking out four batters in the loss.

The Drovers used four pitchers in the game. Brad Smith pitched two innings and stuck out two of the nine batters faced in the game.
