The Drovers may have lost a few good seniors and even their coaching legend L.J. Powell, but new Head Coach Mike Ross isn’t worried about the 2010 baseball season. And judging by the first series, he may not need to be.

It may be the beginning of February, but Drover baseball season is already underway.

USAO's baseball home opener and weekend games against Peru State University have been postponed because the field has been deemed not playable because of melting ice and additional rain. The dates of the three match ups have not been determined.

The Drovers were prepared to open the season Friday afternoon at Texas College, but the weekend games were each postponed a day because of potential winter weather.

Three men who have played a role in USAO athletics were admitted into the Athletic Hall of Fame this weekend, including one who never attended the university or played sports for USAO.

CHICKASHA – Just as he had done hundreds of times before, L.J. Powell’s most recent and life-changing decision was made with the best interests of others in mind.

SHAWNEE – Chalk up another first for the record-breaking University of Science and Arts’ baseball team this season. Three Drovers were named all-conference Tuesday, and Fort Cobb native Nate Hammons posted yet another record.

SHAWNEE – Rainy conditions caused the cancellation of this season's Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament. The Drovers' future in the regional tournament will be known Friday.

ALVA - Dalton House's two-run double in the eighth inning was the difference in the University of Science and Arts' 5-2 game one win over Northwestern Oklahoma Thursday. Nate Hammons set a new school record with 10 wins in a season in a 4-1 game two win.
