CHICKASHA – From solid hitting to great catches at first base, Zach Gonzalez has been a crucial part to the Drover baseball program for the last two seasons. In fact, he may be best known for his sliding splits first.

“In junior high, I just went out to try to get somebody out, and I just happened to be in the splits. Every since then, I just go out there and try to look good doing it,” he said with a laugh.

CHICKASHA – In their second ever Pink Out Cancer game, the Drovers (30-14) split against the Saint Gregory’s Cavaliers on Friday afternoon at Bill Smith Ballpark.

The first game was a pitching battle that went into the eighth inning. USAO pitcher Blake McMullen (8-2) threw nine strikeouts total in his eight innings on the mound. The Drovers fell 1-0.

CHICKASHA – Both Drover baseball and softball programs have teamed up with USAO’s Drovers Against Cancer to host the annual Pink Out Cancer games this weekend at Bill Smith Ballpark.

This is the third year the Drover softball team has had such a game and the second year for USAO’s baseball team. Drovers Against Cancer has organized a pink game for soccer and basketball already this school year.

CHICKASHA – The Drovers couldn’t top Southwestern Oklahoma State, who compete in the NCAA Division II, in a home game on Tuesday afternoon.

CHICKASHA – After splitting on Friday against No. 13 Rogers State, the Drovers turned around to take another win from the high-powered Hillcats.

On Saturday at home, the Drovers (29-10, 7-7) went on to defeat RSU (25-10, 10-5) with a score of 6-3.

CHICKASHA – With 27 wins and three Top 25 opponents already out of the way, the Drovers are off to the best start in school history and are already knocking at the door of the school’s most wins, 37.

“Our goal right now is really just to make it to then national tournament,” senior pitcher Seth Sturgeon said. “If we can make it to that, we probably will have secured that goal of the most wins in school history.”

CHICKASHA – Winning two games on Saturday and grabbing the sweep, the Drovers at 24-3 are off to the best start in school history.
