2012: In his first season with the Drovers, Sturgeon secured himself as a conference starting pitcher. He had the second lowest ERA on the team at 4.27 and had the most wins and best record at 7-1. He allowed just 28 earned runs and threw a total of 41 strikeouts on the season. He threw a complete game shutout in a 6-0 win over Oklahoma Christian. His other complete game was a nine-inning 4-3 win over Rogers State in the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament. In that game, he allowed just two earned runs. He earned the Bill and Pat Smith Scholar-Athlete Scholarship, awarded to one male and one female USAO athlete each year.
2011: Before attending USAO, Sturgeon pitched one season at Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa.
2010: Out of high school, Sturgeon pitched a season at Hutchinson Community College.
High School: Sturgeon helped Enid High School to become three-time regional champions and three state tournament appearances.
