The Drovers were unable to top the high-ranked Bison, despite tough efforts by both teams.
It seems that the Drovers may have been pacing themselves all season but held nothing back Saturday night against Oklahoma Baptist, keeping both games close until near the end.
The Drover men played it close against No. 3 Oklahoma Baptist, leading the Bison almost the entire first half. The second half proved less fruitful for USAO, as the team scored only 29 points in the last 20 minutes of play.
Senior N’Faly Berete had his first double double of the season in his final game at USAO. He had 12 points and 12 rebounds in the 28 minutes he played. Junior Fred Savoie had 17 points.
Fouls kept the game long, as USAO attempted a lot of free throws, shooting from the line 24 times and hitting 66.7 percent of those shots.
OBU won the game 85-66. The Drovers fall to 5-22 overall and 3-19 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
The Lady Drovers also fought hard, holding the No. 4 Bison on their first two possessions and staying within two scores for the first 30 minutes of the game. The nine-point win over USAO was OBU’s biggest lead of the night.
While the Drovers continued to have a low shooting percentage, maintaining and gaining possession of the ball gave them a lot of opportunities to shoot.
Graduating Senior Charitie Lewis had her ninth double double of the season also in her last game as a Drover. She had 14 rebounds and 16 points, shooting 50 percent from the field. Krista Beaty had 12 points for USAO.
The Lady Drovers were defeated 57-48. They end the season with an overall record of 6-24 and 4-17 in conference play.
