CHICKASHA – After coming out with a strong start and never giving up the lead, the Drover men defeated Oklahoma City in a conference battle that went down to the final seconds.
The Drovers meant business Saturday night against one of the university’s biggest rivals. The men quickly took the lead, which got as high as 13 points early in the first half.
The Stars wouldn’t give up and brought the score within one with one possession left. The Drovers held them off on a last-second shot attempt and won the game 62-63.
Senior Thomas Peters shined in the game, pulling up 16 points, 12 of which came from three-point shots. Sophomore Graham Faulkner scored another 13 for the Drovers on Saturday night.
Sophomore Phillip Harris was the team’s highest rebounder with eight total. He also scored nine on the night and had two assists.
The Drovers are 7-8 overall and 3-6 in conference play.
The Drover women, however, had a tougher time facing the Stars, who are ranked No. 2 nationally. USAO fell 49-80.
Senior Aita Gueye was USAO’s highest scorer on Saturday night. She had 15 points and five assists in the game.
Sophomore Vernisha Moss had nine rebounds and six points for the Drovers.
The Drovers are 6-10 overall and 2-7 in the conference.
Both USAO teams head on the road to play at Rogers State on Thursday night. After facing John Brown away, they will return home to take on Oklahoma Baptist on Jan. 27. It’s Craziest Fan Night and the craziest dressed fan will win a prize!
