Drovers thrash Lions in first home game

CHICKASHA – The Drover men left nothing in the locker room Tuesday night and gave this season’s first home crowd quite a show on their way to a 87-68 win over Langston University.

“I thought we looked more like a team tonight,” Coach Brisco McPherson said. “I think we’re coming together. It’s a process.”

Sahlih Butts, a senior newcomer to the USAO program, had his second double double of the season, scoring 17 points and racking up 16 rebounds in the course of the evening.

Sophomore guard Graham Faulkner and junior Drew Godwin each scored another 14 for the Drovers. Thomas Peters had 12 points and Trell Porter had 10.

The team’s free throw percentage was improved over last season as the men sunk 85 percent of their shots from the line.

The win gives the team a 2-1 overall record.

About 300 fans came out to watch USAO’s home opener. It was Armed Forces Night, and USAO honored the selfless men and women who serve our country.

The men head off to play at McPherson College on Saturday.

The Drover women will host the next USAO home game at 6 p.m. Monday in an exhibition against Southeastern Oklahoma State. It is HSI Sensing Appreciation Night and all HSI employees will get in free.

The men won’t play at home again until Dec. 2 for a conference opener against Saint Gregory’s.
